Cone Beam CT Scans for Dogs and Cats

When you go to see your dentist, part of the procedure involves dental imaging, which may include dental x-rays, panoramic x-rays, or 3-D imaging with cone-beam CT. These techniques reveal dental problems that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Dental imaging is performed on all veterinary patients during the dental procedure.

  • Intraoral x-rays: Digital intraoral dental x-rays give information about bone loss associated with periodontal disease, structural defects in teeth, congenital problems (birth defects) of teeth, endodontic disease, and other problems.
  • Cone-beam CT (CBCT): CBCT provides exceptionally good imaging of the fine details of the bony structures within the oral cavity. It provides a 3-D image of the structures in the mouth that cannot bee seen with intraoral dental x-rays.
