I recently found Dr. Hewitt and his team for my beloved 8 year old’s dental care. Never in 8 years have I had an experience with a veterinarian of any kind on this level— Dr. Hewitt has decades of experience as a vet and then went BACK to dental school to specialize — and his experience and expertise shows. I wish I had known much sooner that most vets don’t have extensive dental training and that non-anesthesia cleanings are mostly superficial, and can be traumatic. Dr. Hewitt also expressed more concern about my baby’s heart murmur than my previous vets, and requested  that we see a cardiologist before he would put her under anesthesia (so we did of course!) He also took the time to REALLY explain several heart conditions, periodontal disease and even diet to me in a way that I almost couldn’t believe he made time for. On top of all this, he sent a detailed summary of his findings, recommendations and external resources about all of the above. Although it definitely costs a lot more to do dental cleanings (and other procedures) here than most standard vets, I am so grateful for the peace of mind to have not only his expertise but also the degree of supervision/monitoring of the anesthesia process, especially given my pup’s age and heart. Apparently in Nevada it’s not required for a board certified vet to be present once the anesthesia is administered, for example— and here they use sevoflurane which is human grade anesthesia that takes less time to recover from, vs every other local vet I contacted uses isoflurane. Importantly, Dr. Hewitt has an exceptional bedside manner and you can tell he truly cares about his patients as well as educating their humans. I was delighted to find out recently that our new primary vet (Dr. Pennell) has worked with Dr. Hewitt in the past and “unequivocally recommends him.” I must also add that the front desk staff here (hey Sydney!) and all the vet techs I’ve met so far here and with their neighboring cardiology team— are very warm, competent and helpful. This is not one of those super chaotic, stressful and frustrating clinics— I’ve been to several here in Vegas and they make my dog and I quite uncomfortable!

Dr. Hewitt is amazing. He took the time to explain everything to us in a way we could understand. Even drew us pictures! He is caring and extremely professional. Our experience from the front office staff, to the vet tech, to Dr. Hewitt was wonderful. I feel he is truly passionate about his work. He made us and our pup feel very comfortable and heard. Dr. Hewitt and his staff went above and beyond and deserve BIG Kudos! From after hours follow up to outside veterinary coordination-they thought of everything. My husband and I, nor our dog, could have hoped for even half of the genuine care and concern shown by his staff and himself during the course of care our dog required. The facility and kennels are the cleanest I've ever seen. The front office staff are organized and polite, the vet staff are empathetic and professional.

Couldn't ask for a better experience during a stressful time.
